Purpose of foundation treatment

The foundation treatment generally refers to the engineering measures used to improve the bearing capacity of the foundation supporting the building, improve its deformation performance or impermeability.

The problems faced by the foundation are mainly in the following aspects:
a.Bearing capacity and stability problems.
b.The problem of compression and uneven settlement.
c.Leakage.
d.Liquefaction.
e.Special problems of special soil.

When the natural foundation exists one or several of the above five kinds of problems, the foundation treatment measures should be adopted in order to ensure the safety and normal use of the superstructure. Through the foundation treatment, we can achieve the following purposes.

1.Improve the bearing capacity of foundation soil
The concrete manifestation of the foundation shear failure is that the bearing capacity of the building is not enough, and the structure is unstable because of the eccentric load or the lateral earth pressure; Due to the load of filling or building, the adjacent foundation is raised; During the excavation, the slope lost stability, foundation pit heave. The shear failure of foundation soil is mainly due to the lack of shear strength of foundation soil. Therefore, in order to prevent shear failure, some measures should be taken to improve the shear strength of foundation soil.

2.Reducing the compressibility of foundation soil

The compressibility of the foundation is manifested in the large settlement and differential settlement of the building, and the compressibility of the soil is related to the compression modulus of the soil. Therefore, measures must be taken to improve the compression modulus of the foundation soil so as to reduce the settlement and uneven settlement of the foundation.

3.Improving the water permeability of foundation
The foundation excavation, and piping or the flow of sand due to soil nipped in the thin layer of silt or silty soil, which is caused by the movement of groundwater in the soil, so must take measures to reduce soil permeability or reduce the hydrodynamic pressure.

4.Improvement of dynamic characteristics of foundation soil
Saturated loose powder fine sand (including some silt) will liquefaction under the action of earthquake. When bearing traffic load and piling, it will cause vibration of nearby foundations to drop. These are the dynamic characteristics of soil. The purpose of foundation treatment is to improve the dynamic characteristics of the soil so as to improve the anti vibration performance of the soil.

5.Improving the bad characteristics of special soil foundation
For collapsible loess and expansive soil, it is to eliminate or reduce the collapsibility of the loess or the expansion and contraction of expansive soil.
