What is soil stabilization / solidification technology

Soil stabilization technology is a kind of soil remediation technologies that prevent or reduce the release of harmful chemicals from contaminated soil. Usually used for harmless treatment of soils contaminated by heavy metals and radioactive materials. Soil stabilization technology can not only dig out contaminated soil on the ground, put into the appropriate shape of the mold or placed into the open area after mixing, also can be used in situ stabilization treatment of contaminated land.

Soil solidification / stabilization technology contains two concepts. Among them, solidification refers to the inclusion of pollutants, so that they are granular or large, so that the pollutants are in a relatively stable state. In general, it is mainly the process of converting contaminated soil into solid form, that is, the inclusion of contaminants in a solid state of complete structure. Soil stabilization refers to the conversion of pollutants to the state and form of being converted to less readily dissolved or migratory or less toxic, through reducing the biological effectiveness of pollutants, realize the harmless or reduce its risk of harm to the ecosystem. In many cases, the soil stabilization process is different from the solidification process, and the results of the stabilization in a lower risk of leakage and leaching of pollutants in contaminated soil.

Soil solidification / stabilization technology has the following characteristics

1.Contaminated soil needs to be mixed with the soil binder in situ or ectopic solidification.
2.Stabilization may be combined with other fixed technologies, and may increase the total volume of pollutants.
3.The contaminated soil after solidification / stabilization should be beneficial to subsequent treatment.
4.Field applications require the installation of all or part of the following facilities: in situ remediation require in situ soil mixing equipment; dust collection equipment; volatile pollutant control systems; large storage tanks.

The treatment of contaminated soil with stabilization / solidification technology has the following advantages

1.It can deal with many kinds of complex metal wastes and some organic pollutants.
2.Low cost.
3.The processing equipment is easy to transfer.
4.The formed solid toxicity decreased and the stability increased.
5.Microorganisms that coagulate in solids are difficult to grow and do not destroy the caking structure.
